EMI Lecturer Trainers: Reflections on the Implementation of EMI Lecturer Training Course

Universities in non-native English-speaking countries strive to increase the number of international students using EMI as one their internationalisation strategies, “being caught up rush offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through medium English” (Macaro et al. 2018, 37). This has resulted an unprecedented demand for lecturers acquire improved English language proficiency new teaching methodology skills (Gay 2020). The research, however, evidences lack published materials development lecturer training courses (Costa 2015; Dafouz 2018; Gay Moreover, literature on hands-on practice with respect experience those involved is scant. Thus, here, authors outline course provide analysis eight trainers from three leading Russian universities that conducted academic years 2017-2019. Semi-structured interviews pre-and post-course surveys show encounter difficulties which are psychological, methodological linguistic nature, these being low lecturers, insufficient knowledge pedagogical self-reflection feedback resistance active learning techniques a student-centered approach. findings this study will be useful since highlights potential challenges practical advice how efficacy.
